Since the year 2000, the US Dollar has fallen in value over 60%. (Click the link above to see the graph.) Since all Super 16mm and 35mm lenses available for sale are manufactured in Europe or the U.K., prices of used equipment will be going up 75%-100% once the existing supply of used cameras and lenses in the U.S. is sold. The reason for this is that most of the used cameras/lenses that you have seen for sale in the U.S. over last 7 years, formerly at resonable prices were imported from Europe when the US Dollar's value was 60% higher. Used cameras in the U.S. are now looking very attractive to European buyers.
STOCK OF USED CINE LENSES IS EXTREMELY LOW DUE TO RECORD DEMAND. Foremerly, these lenes could only be used on 16mm and 35mm motion picture (film) cameras. Now there are several one-chip CCD/CMOS digital cinema cameras (ARRI D-20, Dalsa, RED One, Silicon Imaging SI-2K) and several 35mm format to 3-CCD digital optical adapters (P+S Technik Mini-35 and Pro-35, MovieTUBE, Red Rock, etc). These cine lenses were made in small quantities for the cine film camera market only. Now there are easily ten times as many cameras and optical adapters that are compatible with these lenses.
I have been sounding this warning since 2003. Many of my customers that have bought lens sets from me in previous years have seen the vaule of their investment double. Don't wait until it's too late.

35mm/ Super-35 Format Prime Lenses
|
|
|
|
|
ALL 35mm lenses cover Super 16. The focal length stays the same, but the field of view is narrower. Unless noted in the description, all lenses below cover Super 35 full aperture.

NOTE to users of P+S Technik Mini-35 or Pro-35, Movietube and Red One: The shallowness of the depth of field is determined by the f-stop, not the T-stop, which is for film exposure purposes. If two lenses have different T-stops (example T1.3 and T1.4) but the same f-stop (f1.2) the depth of field at wide open aperture will be exactly the same. |

ARRI ULTRA PRIMES
|
|
|
|
|
Current model T 1.9 prime lenses, introduced in 1998.
Fifteen high performance prime lenses with focal lengths from 10mm to 180mm and covering the full Super 35mm format, have been developed over years of collaboration between ARRI and Carl Zeiss. The objective was to create a set of lenses which for the first time completely unite all main characteristics such as focus, contrast, color saturation, color uniformity and compactness together wit h a high speed rating and low aperture induced focus shift. Additionally, the new lens standard was optimized for close focus where to date conventional optical designs have clearly been weak.
Features:
- F-stop of f1.7, T-stop of T1.9 on most lenses (except 10mm, 12mm and 180mm)
- Front diameter 95mm Ø on all lenses except 10mm & 12mm (156mm Ø), 14mm & 180mm (114mm Ø)
- Larger focus scale diameter with large markings in feet or meters. Focus scales can be easily changed. Integrated focus and iris gears.
- Internal focus: Exterior housing and front element do not move during focus. Clip-on matte boxes can be used without limitation (we reccomend the ARRI LMB-5 clip-on matte box).
- Rugged mechanical design: With Acme threads (rather than 60º threads). Mechanism does not wear out so image shift will never be a problem.
- Extremely high contrast. All lenses in the set have MTF of over 90% at 10 lp/mm.

NOTE: The Ultra Primes are still current model lenses and used Ultra Primes are very difficult to come by and sell VERY QUICKLY. If you see what you need on our list e-mail now. Ultra Primes focus scales are in feet or meters (but not both). Focus scales can be excanged easily.

All lenses designed for the Super 16mm format are fully compatible in sensor coverage and resolution with the P+S Technik / Silicon Imaging SI-2K Digital Cinema Camera without limitation. There are no vignetting or "dark corner" problems with any of the lenses mentioned below. S16mm format lenses are also compatible with the RED ONE camera in "windowed sensor" mode. |

Carl Zeiss Super 16 Mark II Super Speed primes:
Factory equipped with 80mm front and focus gear. Greatly improved focus scales and mechanical design compared to Mk. I Bayonet mount version. Similar to latest Mk. III version except no gear on iris and smaller numbers and shorter rotation on focus scale. Photo above shows full 5 lens set after CinemaTechnic's overhaul. Note the much easier to read yellow focus scale (feet). Metric scale is kept in original white color and is seen from the other side of the lens. These lenses can be supplied in either Bayonet or PL mounts. The PL mounts are dedicated mounts, not adapters, and are identical to the ones used on the 35mm Superspeed set.
The last generation Mk. III lenses were available new from ARRI for $9400.- per lens. We believe the supply of new Mk. III lenses to be exhausted. Supply of used Mk. II lenses is very limited.
